Deeplish Do The Business!

Our #AboveAndBeyond ethos has seen our coaching team take our partner schools to a variety of different events and sports fixtures across the borough this half term, with young people taking part in a huge variety of events including Indoor Athletics, Cross Country and Football.

One event that took place earlier in the half term was the Rochdale AFC annual ‘Kick It Out’ cup at the Soccer Village, Rochdale. Team Dream BIG took both Castleton Primary and Deeplish Primary Academy to this competition and it could be said that upon entering the competition Deeplish Primary Academy were the ‘underdogs’ after having no previous success at inter school competitions. That was until now...

Deeplish Primary Academy led by coach Lewis Shaw, managed to produce some incredible football on the pitch, working as a team they displayed excellent confidence in their own ability and started the competition with a hard-fought draw against Castleton. After the first fixture the team then went on to secure two victories in the next two games which was enough to see them through to the final.

The final will now take place on Saturday 21st October at the Crown Oil Stadium during the half time interval when Rochdale AFC take on Bristol Rovers in the upcoming League One fixture.

Coach Lewis Shaw commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to go and represent their school in front of over 3000 football fans in their home town. Although, I must say that it is fully deserved, all of the children all worked hard for each other and when it didn’t quite go to plan in the first game against Castleton they bounced back with two wins and that is the positive attitude we try to instil in them during P.E lessons and After School Clubs. It certainly has got the whole school talking, the teachers and staff couldn’t be more supportive. No matter what happens in the final we will go enjoy the fixture and make the most of the occasion.”

Director of Service Delivery, Dillan O’Connor said: “Inspiring children to achieve their dreams is at the forefront of our mission as an organisation. It is our aim to encourage more children to take part in high quality sport regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity or religion and what better way to inspire a whole school by taking their sports teams to competitions with the prizes and finals being played at professional football grounds.

Our Above and Beyond ethos is what we pride ourselves on and Lewis has definitely gone above and beyond in his role and will now reap the rewards with a final at Rochdale Football Club. We wish him and the team the very best of luck, we will be supporting them all the way.”
