Free Fruit Friday!
‘5 a day keeps the doctor away'. That’s the message that we have been sharing with local children across the community in recent weeks. As an organisation we believe that our impact should not just be transcended through delivery and provision but also through the messages that we are passing on to young people to educate them efficiently and encourage them to make more positive choices in their every day life.
To achieve this, we decided to pilot our ‘Free Fruit Friday’ initiative at our most recent sports and activities holiday clubs held at both Castleton Primary School, Rochdale and St. Mary’s Primary School, Middleton. The idea was to offer free fruit to all participants at the clubs as an alternative to our usual snacks and treats available at the tuck shop during morning break and afternoon break on the last day of the club - Friday.
As expected, it was a huge hit! Children of different ages relished the chance to choose from their favourite fruits to keep them refreshed and energised throughout the day with a selection of apples, bananas, tangerines and pears on offer to them. The offer proved so popular that the #TeamDreamBig coaches had to re-stock ready for the afternoon after underestimating just how much the children enjoyed eating healthily.
Following its success we have decided to continue ‘Free Fruit Friday’ and include it in our ongoing plans for the Summer provision taking place during the school holidays. Make sure to return to our “Holiday Camp” section of the website for more details...
