Dream Big Sports has always had an ambition to invest in the careers of local residents in our community. When successfully becoming a registered 1st4Sport qualification centre, we took a large step towards achieving this and we are now able to commit to the next step in this process.
We are proud to announce that over the next six months, we will be providing fully funded, accredited qualifications for local residents looking to kickstart their careers in the sports industry! The ‘Inspire’ employment programme supported by the One Oldham Fund and our own financial investment will see over 60 residents in Oldham provided the opportunity to achieve a Level 2 Multi-Skills qualification, a Safeguarding Children and First Aid Certificate providing them with the foundations required to build a successful sports coaching career.
In addition, we will be providing accredited training for 30 local residents to be able to safely lead their own community Yoga and Wellbeing groups. Furthermore, all participants will be provided with an Enhanced DBS Check and access to two ‘Get Ahead’ Employment Skills Advisory days where we will cover topics such as CV writing, job applications, interview skills and more.
Director, Dale Harris commented:
“We are all well aware that the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many people’s employment but it also provided an opportunity for some people to re-think their career paths. Our ‘Inspire’ programme is designed to do exactly what it says, inspire local residents to gain employment in the sports sector. It will provide the foundations for those looking to take their first steps on the sports coaching career path.
Whilst making a positive difference with regard to employment opportunities, our team is dedicated to igniting a passion for physical activity and sport in the next generation of young people and we are well aware that we cannot do this alone. We have a vision where our investment provides equal access to opportunities for young people to benefit from an active lifestyle – by upskilling and appropriately qualifying individuals from within our community means they are able to lead sports sessions in their own neighbourhoods and communities. Ultimately, inspiring a wider number of children and young people to be active!”
The programme itself is open to unemployed 18-35-year-olds who currently live in Oldham and would like to kick start their journey into the sports coaching industry. If you are interested in finding out more please email info@dreambigsports.co.uk.
Dream Big Sports are investing significant financial resources into this programme but a huge thank you has to go to the Action Together and One Oldham Fund team for supporting our initiative. Further details including how to apply will be announced in the coming weeks…
