International Women’s Day!

Happy International Women’s Day!

We felt is was the perfect opportunity to catch up with our female staff, and ask them a few questions…

Tell us about your role & what it involves day to day…

“My role at Dream Big Sports is Head of Partnerships. I visit our partner schools to make sure we are providing a high standard of provision and checking in on our staff to see if there is anything they require. I am also a dance specialist going into our schools to deliver the national curriculum in dance. Delivering styles such as Street dance, Bollywood and African.”

Lydia Power

“I’m a dance specialist at Dream Big Sports. I currently deliver dance & yoga provision in 7 different schools for both curriculum lessons and extra curricular clubs. I teach all ages from nursery to year 6, a range of different themes and styles of dance. Whilst day to day I lead classes and clubs, I am also involved in implementing dance and music within the playground setting & creating performances which are showcased in assemblies throughout the year. This upcoming term I am very much looking forward to being involved in a dance festival within one of the schools I am based at and beginning choreography for a year 6 end of year production.’“

Alex Boult

“My role as a dance coach, includes going to various schools all across Manchester to teach different routines. In the sessions, we look at a variety of different styles & themes from Street dance to Line dancing. This gives everyone the chance to find a style that suits them & which they enjoy! The lessons also focus on developing a range of different skills such as strength, coordination and rhythm.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

“My favourite thing about my job is seeing children leave my lessons with a huge smile on their faces, leaving my sessions full of confidence and positivity, as well as the children attending my lessons to learn dance I want them to leave my lessons building on their life skills which they can use day to day not just in my sessions.”

Lydia Power

“My favourite thing about my job is seeing children I teach have fun, use their imagination & enjoying the lessons. It’s great to see the children excited and engaged within dance each week.”

Alex Boult

“My favourite part of the job is seeing the children perform at the end of the lessons or term. This is because they get the chance to show off all their hard work & put all their energy into giving the best performance.”

What advice would you give a young girl aspiring to do a similar job in the future?

“The advice I would give to young girls who want to do a similar job in the future is to go for it! Believe in yourself & everything you do is a life lesson which will help grow you into a stronger & more confident person. Everything happens for a reason & push yourself to the best you can be.”

Lydia Power

“Advice I would give to a young girl aspiring to do a similar job in the future is to do what you love, then build a career around that. It might take time to get to a position or career you want to do, but when you reach a job you enjoy & have passion for, it will be worth it.”

Alex Boult

“I would advise any young girl aspiring to be a dance coach to never limit yourself & keep pushing yourself to learn different styles of dance. In dance there is always something new discover & it is important to look out for opportunities which will help you grow!”
